Yesterday, IBM announced the strategic partnership with HCL Technologies, which will have a significant impact on the further development of the Domino product family.
The IBM Champions for ICS, amongst them Andreas Ponte and Sandra Bühler, were directly informed by Inhi Cho Suh (General Manager IBM Collaboration Solutions) and Ed Brill (VP of Product Management) about this partnership and the further steps. These IBM executives were also available for many questions during and after the announcement.
IBM has already worked successfully with HCL Technologies in other areas and is now extending it to IBM Notes, Domino, Verse and Sametime. The goal of this partnership is “the acceleration and expansion of the development” of these products. It should be noted that IBM will continue to drive the leadership and strategy of the products and HCL will be responsible for the further development and implementation.
What products will benefit from this new partnership?
- IBM Notes and Domino
- IBM SmartCloud Notes
- IBM Notes Traveler
- IBM Mobile Connect
- IBM Verse
- IBM Mail Support for Microsoft Outlook (IMSMO)
- IBM WISPR
- IBM Enterprise Integrator (LEI)
- IBM Sametime portfolio
- IBM Connections Chat/Meetings
- IBM Client Access (ICAA)
What are the changes for customers using these products?
- The handling remains the same, IBM remains the main contact
- Licenses are still obtained directly from IBM or via IBM Business Partner
- Software will be available via Passport Advantage
- You benefit from faster development cycles
- You can help shape the development of future versions
The updates for Verses on Premises with version 1.0.3 and the FP 10 for IBM Notes and Domino announced for the end of 2017 are still being worked on and will be delivered as promised.
The first results of this new collaboration are expected with IBM Notes, Domino and Verse 10 as well as a new Sametime version in autumn 2018. This development runs under the project name “Sapphire”, which can be seen as the beginning of a long-term roadmap for the products.
Another exciting announcement are the planned “Domino2025 Jams”, which offer you the opportunity for feedback, wishes, criticism and help shape the future of the products. These events are made up of “real” and virtual workshops and feedback rounds and are held worldwide. With the active participation in these jams, you have the opportunity to participate in the development of version 10 as well as in the further development of the products.
What is a Jam
What began as an internal experiment in 2001 is now a proven IBM management tool for driving innovation and collaboration. Positioned as a strategic event, Jams help businesses and organizations unleash the brainpower of their enterprise to generate and evolve ideas around business-critical or urgent societal issues.
and to prevent misunderstandings, the Domino2025 initiative is a project name and has nothing to do with an expiration date.
We look forward to an exciting time and working with IBM and HCL on the new versions.
